We Are Here Because You Were There

2022-24

The words by A.Sivanandan have always had resonance for me since reading his ‘A Different Hunger’, a very direct response to those who would want to tell you to ‘go back to where you came from’. First exhibited near where I live in Birmingham, a short run of limited edition T-shirts were also created for fundraising for the Institute of Race Relations based in London, set up by Siva and so many more valued elders and progressives. www.irr.org.uk

Exhibited at URBAN NATION museum for urban contemporary art in Berlin til 2024 as part of the exhibition: TALKING… & OTHER BANANA SKINS addressing polarization. It encourages visitors to question their own perspectives. Conflicts and issues are multi-faceted, and not to be pigeonholed. The artworks presented in the 8 chapters of the exhibition are asking how and what is being communicated within society and the urban environment. Putting exchange and dialogue back at the center.
