Following on from the exhibition at Eastside Projects, derivative works were added to the exhibition at SOAS, 12 January – 20 March 2021. Pictured is one of the works selected for the Birmingham City University Arts building vitrine at Margaret Street.
The set of illuminated bollards placed in the back exhibition space of the Brueni Gallery represents the reordering of cities for ‘protection’, repositioning and reconceptualizing their purpose and function. The text chosen for these particular works was around the concept of 'pre-crime' and suspicion in the public space. The works were influenced by the writing of Dr Tom Pettinger and his CTS chapters and book. The works were made to evoke emotive responses and question the terminology and often racialized nature of the legislation in CTS and open public spaces.
